The Grand Panoramic is the definitive edition of the Eastern Himalayan road trip. Connecting the four great hill stations—Gangtok, Pelling, Kalimpong, and Darjeeling—this itinerary creates a seamless loop of culture and geography. Unlike standard circuits, we pause in Kalimpong, a quiet floral haven often bypassed by the rush, to add a layer of colonial nostalgia. From the glass skywalks of Pelling to the heritage tea estates of Darjeeling, experience the shifting landscapes at a rhythm that allows you to breathe. This is the complete mountain narrative, designed for the traveler who refuses to compromise.
Your journey begins at Bagdogra/NJP. Drive along the river valley to Gangtok (5,410 ft). Check-in and relax. The evening is yours to explore MG Marg, the pedestrian promenade filled with the aroma of coffee and Himalayan cuisine.
Ascend to 12,400 ft to visit Tsomgo Lake. In winter, it is a frozen sheet of white; in summer, a turquoise jewel. Visit Baba Mandir nearby. Return to Gangtok.
Overnight: Gangtok
We drive to West Sikkim via Ravangla. Stop at the Buddha Park to marvel at the 130-ft statue against the skyline. Continue to Pelling (6,100 ft). The Kanchenjunga range dominates the view here—it feels personal and immediate.
Walk the Chenrezig Skywalk (Glass Bridge) for a thrill 7,200 ft above sea level. Explore the Rabdentse Ruins, the ancient capital where the Chogyal kings once ruled. Visit Pemayangtse Monastery and the Rimbi Waterfalls.
Descend to the Teesta river and climb up to Kalimpong (4,100 ft). This town is warmer, greener, and famous for its nurseries. Visit Deolo Hill (the highest point) for a 360-degree view. Visit the Dr. Graham’s Homes school campus, a piece of Scottish history in India.
Overnight: Kalimpong
A short, scenic drive (2.5 hrs) brings you to Darjeeling. The road winds through the Peshok tea gardens. Arrive and check-in. Walk to the Chowrasta to watch the sunset turn the mountains purple.
Overnight: Darjeeling
Start at 4:00 AM. Drive to Tiger Hill to watch the sun ignite the Kanchenjunga peaks. On the return, visit Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop. Post breakfast, visit the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and the Zoo.
